I’ve been thinking about it and I think Marvel and DC are refusing to make movies with female protagonists and are still throwing in a bunch of sexist lines and the same cliche scene of guy wakes up, doesn’t remember girl’s name, kicks her out.. is because they’re trying to please the fans they already have. It’s always been a ‘guy thing’ to like comics and not care too much about sexist slurs and women who are fully dressed.. sure, more and more women are joining their fan club but is it really enough to risk making a female-lead movie? a movie that as many guys MIGHT NOT go see? a movie that we are going to pick apart and search for a bad sexist joke?? Idk. and also.. all these movies are coming from comics that were made in a pretty sexist driven time.. so of course the themes are going to be a little sketchy, the jokes are going to be more sexual than any forward thinking person (not female) would be uncomfortable with and about 10 male characters to 1 female (which is funny because there are more of us in the real world than there are guys.. but hey its fantasy)
I still enjoy the movies. I follow along with the avengers. I love batman and superman. i might be 50 before they decide to make a real girl super hero who isn’t just around for being hot and straight forward. Has no one else noticed that “strong” female characters usually mean incredibly curvy, not smiley, straight forward women who are usually angry or easily ticked off? agh„ i’m going off topic.
just saying. marvel and dc are still catching up with the times. I think they have to make movies out of everything thats the most popular right now, and unfortunately thats not women being awesome the way women define awesome.
